Memorial Day

A headline stated that people aren’t celebrating Memorial Day like they used to. I understand, even as it makes me a bit sad. As we move further and further from our local communities and more into our online communities, it’s easy to forego local traditions. I’m part of the problem, spending most of my day online.

Even if I don’t invite a bunch of neighbors over to barbecue, I don’t ever want to forget the reason for this day.

It’s a day to memorialize the sacrifice that was made to allow us to have the freedoms we have today. It’s about honoring the ones that gave that ultimate sacrifice.

I know the military costs a lot of money, and has become a bit of a divisive word among the younger generation. Today is not a day for arguing politics, or whining about government spending. I don’t care if you are a pacifist who things the entire military should be disbanded, you should remember the sacrifice of the brave men and women who have laid down their lives for the privileges you enjoy today.

Thank you for all that you gave us.

Till tomorrow,
